Why Cackalacky?

Now, in case you didn’t know, I’m from North Carolina, also known as North Cackalacky. I have a load of state pride and Southern pride, but on top of that, NC has a historic precedent in the film industry. A whole lot of films have been produced either wholly or in part in my state. In fact, the Tar Heel State has one of the biggest film industries outside of Hollywood and New York City, and has stood in for various and even exotic locations in many movies. North Carolina also boasts the largest professional film studio outside of NYC and LA, located on the coast in Wilmington:

Due to its varied geography and tax incentives for film makers, North Carolina has already established itself as a great place to film. We’ve got mountains, cities, woods, beaches, hills, farms, and studios, all within a few hours drive of each other. So when you ask, “Why should Carl (or even yourself) film in North Carolina?” My answer is, “Why not?”

Some famous films that were shot partially or completely in the Tar Heel Stat include:

Iron Man 3 (2013)

Revolution (2012)

The Hunger Games (2012)

Journey 2: The Mysterious Island (2012)

Homeland (2011)

Dear John (2010)

Leatherheads (2008)

The Secret Life of Bees (2008)

Nights in Rodanthe (2008)

Dog Days of Summer (2007)

The Guardian (2006)

Talladega Nights: The Ballad of Ricky Bobby (2006)

The Ultimate Gift (2006)

Lemony Snicket’s A Series of Unfortunate Events (2004)

A Walk to Remember (2002)

Divine Secrets of the Ya-Ya Sisterhood (2002)

Hannibal (2001)

28 Days (2000)

The Green Mile (1999)

My Fellow Americans (1996)

The Crow (1994)

The Jungle Book (1994)

Nell (1994)

Forrest Gump (1994)

Richie Rich (1994)

The Fugitive (1993)

The Last of the Mohicans (1992)

The Hunt for Red October (1990)

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (1990)

Days of Thunder (1990)

The Abyss (1989)

Dirty Dancing (1987)

Stroker Ace (1983)

The Private Eyes (1980)

Being There (1979)

The Swan (1956)

Davy Crockett: King of the Wild Frontier (1955)

Now, I haven’t even seen all of these movies, but if you recognize even half of them, you’ll know why NC is a wonderful place to set up base camp for your next feature, short, or music video. An added bonus? Carl is in NC, too! (Unless film school is in session, in which case he’ll be in VA.)
